John f. kennedy
Ask any American who was over the age of 8 in 1963 the question: "Where were you when President Kennedy was shot?" and a complete detailed story is likely to follow. On November 22, 1963, a wave of shock and grief swept the United States. While visiting Dallas, President Kennedy was killed by an assassin's bullet. A protective covering was not placed over his convertible limousine. News rang out through the nation. Businesses and schools closed so grief-stricken Americans could watch the unfolding events. The crowd of people standing on the street saw the incident and the news was spread through television all over the country.
Even though this incident was a crazy incident it also had many red flags when people look back on the situation. It was a nice day in Dallas and the president, first lady, and Texas governor were all riding in an open top convertible. They were all completely exposed which made it easy for the shooter to get a good shot off. The Warren Commission concluded that Kennedy was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald and that he acted alone and that Jack Ruby also acted alone when he killed Oswald before he could stand trial. With America experiencing this, it impacted America immediately in November of 1963, and is still impacting us today.
How would our society and American Government be different if JKF was never assassinated? For starters our society could be a lot different if JKF wasn't assassinated. JKF's assassination is the last president that was assassinated while in office. It had the largest impact on the American people. He was able to be seen by the entire country because of the media, so every decision he made was seen by the American people and not just the people in the surrounding area of Washington D.C. He was said to be one of the top presidents. I would put him in the top ten because he did many great things and this also contributes to why their was so much grief all over the country when he was killed. The media was able to inform the entire country quickly on the assassination, unlike past presidents. The government has also been changed quite a bit since then to help protect the president and keep them more safe and secure. The Secret Service has tightened down a lot and made the president less vulnerable. The presidents are no longer able to ride in open toped vehicles. The presidential motorcade is bullet proof with a top on it and there are many other cars that are full of people to protect the president. The government does't tell the pubic or media about the technology they have on the motorcade. This shows how the media is also limited to some things and it tends to be harder for them to find about the details because if it was known by the public the president's security could be at risk.
